Take public transport
Take public transport. Ferries, trains and buses are the most fuel efficient forms of transport. On busy routes you'll get there quicker thanks to special bus lanes. Bus routes connect most suburbs and towns around the country and it's not just an urban myth, the world really is more fascinating when seen from a bus window! Demand cheaper, more frequent public transport options.
About 40% of New Zealand's greenhouse gases are thanks to transport, mostly private cars.

These boots...
were definitely made for walking, something I need to do A LOT more of, and especially living on the flat I have NO EXCUSE.
So this is probably my biggest pledge in all honesty- using the car is my biggest temptation because it seems "quick", especially with littlies.
dirty buses
Just wondering, a large number of the buses that I see driving around Auckland are filthy, and have huge clouds of black smoke spewing out of their exhaust pipes. I have also heard that one bus is as polluting as 100 cars. Is this true? and what can we do about getting Stagecoach to clean up their buses?
Re:Dirty buses
I do think that buses pollute the air around us. I think it has something to do with the bus not being tuned properly (not really a bus expert, sorry.) The filthy cloud that you sometimes see spewing out of the bus are the diesel fumes. (not sure if they are good or bad...probably bad.) Hopefully that answers your question about it being bad or not.

Take down the number plate and call MAXX. The number is 09 366 6400. They have a complaints system and from my experience they do get back to you. The more people who report the smelly buses, the more they are likely to do something.

That is a brillinat idea!

Saving $$$
I read somewhere that if you take a bus (to work, school etc.) instead of a car for a year you woould save an estimated $5000. So I am going to try and take the bus more often...we need the money and it would reduce fuel emissions immensely.
