Use natural products and pure soaps to clean your house. White vinegar, baking soda, lemon juice etc.Your house just has to be clean not poisonous. When you really must buy a premade packaged product buy a NZ made eco product.
Chemical-free cleaners are better for the earth, better for your health and don't support the petrochemcial industry.

easy cleaner

50:50 water and vinegar..simple as that!
maybe add some lemon juice as well

Home-made cleaning products

I've found baking soda works well cleaning baths, basins and sinks - you have to rinse it off though. There are recipes for baking soda based hygiene and cleaning products on the Internet, the simplest of which involve just mixing baking soda with water.

Whistle while you work

I have recently bought a house with my fiance and this has really boosted my environment-awareness. I have a cupboard full of nasty chemicals for cleaning, which I'll never use! I think my other half will, but I have found that using cleaners which I make myself to be more rewarding because:
I get to make something :-)
They smell heaps nicer
I don't have to wear gloves (my dermatitis flares up with chemicals)
I know I'm looking after my home, my health and my planet
It's way cheaper!

We are so concese of this as

We are so concese of this as I find the my skin gets easily irritate with the "chemical cleaners" so we shop mainly at our local organic store and buy the plant based products from there for ease - ready mixed and they are as efficent as the chemical ones.

They are concentrate mix often so thought it seems expensive to buy they last longer than the regular products.

It is a simple way to change your buying power!

When is a chemical not a chemical

I've no problem with the suggestion for using such things as vineger, lemon juice, baking soda, etc, but lets not kid ourselves that they're not chemicals as well.

Vinegar dictionary definition - "sour-tasting liquid produced usually by oxidation of the alcohol in wine or cider and used as a condiment or food preservative".

That doesn't sound very natural to me. And have you tried putting say a few old coins in it and seeing what happens? The reason it works as a cleaner is that it is highly acidic. Vinegar is essentially acetic acid. Lemon juice is citic acid.
