Switch to environmentally/biodegradable cleaning products
Help clean-up the effects of your cleaning on the environment.
Switch your detergents to biodegradable and sustainable products. You'll be surprised how far they go as many are concentrated so they last longer as you use less, as well as being kinder to your skin, and the planet in their packaging.

Cleaners Chemical Free
Baking Soda (bicarbonate of soda) is an excellent naturally occuring substance that is great for the general cleaning of kitchen benches, fridges, stove tops etc. Also acts as a fabric softener and deodoriser. Cleans and polishes most shiny materials without scratching and removes some stains. I use it all the time.
Cleaning Products
Buying environmentally friendly cleaning products is an easy way to help protect the environment particularly if you buy in bulk so there is less packaging waste. Check that the bottles can be recycled or refilled. Organic World and Ecostore will refill your empty bottles so you create even less waste - very economical and planet friendly!
Using natural products is even better. Baking soda, vegetable oils, vinegar (white wine and apple cider) and lemon juice are cheap, probably in your cupboard already and can cover just about any household cleaning task effectively (often better than those chemical poisons too readily available in the supermarket) without causing damage to you or your environment. Even more economical, skin, health and planet friendly!!

Clean House Clean Planet
Better still make all your cleaning products from things in your pantry!!
Baking soda, Vinegar and Detergent are all you really need to make most cleaners.
Brilliant book I've just bought- 'Clean House, Clean Planet' by Karen Logan shows you how to make them and has tried and tested all the recipes. It's not only a cheaper alternative, but kinder to your health, especially your childrens. Enjoy!
make your own cleaner is easy!
i make a simple cleaner using (mostly locally sourced) essential oils of lavender and orange and sometimes tea tree oil, with baking soda added to a spray bottle of water. You can add a bit of eco store detergent too. You only need about 2 tsp baking soda and 15 drops or so of oils. If you don't have baking soda, vinegar works well too - just a few teaspoons. I have found it very effective and heaps cheaper, as i use it everywhere, including the toilet. A great way to lessen the load on mother earth! Also great for people with allergies or sensitive skin...
Homemade cleaning products
Brilliant! :) I love the idea of using home made cleaning products!
Whenever I see those 'Bam' etc adds on T.V. it worries me- if you realy can spray it on and wipe away the muck just like that then theres no way I want anywhere near my food prep areas and in my bathroom!
Elbow grease is the best cleaning product in my mind
