Organic waste in your Garbage

Organic waste in your garbage that goes to landfill will usually decompose to methane, which is more than twenty time stronger than CO2 as a Greenhouse gas. This is because in the landfill there not enough air for natural decomposition.

Make sure that you do not put food waste into your garbage bin. Throwing it in a pile in a corner of your garden is better than landfill. You will be surprised how little room it takes up. Better to makes sure you have a compost heap of some sort.

Landlord

I just emailed my landlord asking if we can create a compost at home to reduce our organic waste

composting

When we started composting I noticed that we reduced our kerbside rubbish by 1/2. I also grow vegetables so once the organic matter has broken down, it goes back onto the gardens.

a really great idea to have your own hassle free compost is the Bokashi Compost System. So easy to handle - i have one in my household and it is great. check on www.emshop.co.nz
