Try out reusable menstrual products like a Mooncup or Cloth Pads. They save you money as well as saving the planet. Tampons and pads are the most under-discussed of the major contributors to environmental damage. Using four a day, five days a month, for some 40 years, a woman may average an astounding 10,000 tampons or pads in her life. Consequently, the amount of menstrual product waste worldwide is staggering. It is unknown how long this waste takes to biodegrade. In addition, according to the Worldwatch Institute (US), the pulp and paper industry ranks among the highest in resource use and pollution generation.

moon cups and cloth pads

i have recently changed to cloth pads and moon cups and will never go back - can highly recommend trying these - got mine from babyharmony.co.nz - you can get pads in all sorts of fabrics i have some hemp and merino ones, and some microfleece and pul(breathable waterproof fabric - same stuff pocket nappies are made from)...if you want to save on money you can make your own, and can source fabric from web - i found greenbeans.co.nz great for this! Good luck its certainly worth changing!!!

Mooncup Babes!

I have had my mooncup for at least 6 months now and it did take me a couple of months to just get the swing of it but I absolutely adore it! No more period cramps, no more yucky disposing (as we have a septic tank they had to be wrapped and rubbished) and it is easy - why oh why did I not get one 10 years ago!

DEFINITELY. Once I got my mooncup, I wondered how I'd put up with all the other "options" for so long, not to mention how much I was spending!!! $50 for 10 years seems like a much better option, plus there's no landfill, it's great for camping, and far better for your body.
I'm a total convert.
