PLEDGE: Go Vegan
Livestock production causes 20% of greenhouse gases worldwide, as much as all forms of transport combined, and 49% in New Zealand. Pastoral farming also causes other kinds of environmental degradation like deforestation, erosion and contamination of waterways. Giving up meat and dairy products makes a huge difference in environmental terms and will also improve your health

Maybe not
Well although Im always passionate about preserving and protecting our environment, I cannot really agree with this. Isn't this kinda too extreme?!?!?!
In this kinda logic, the entire human being would have to be wiped out from the planet for utmost environment protection
It would come down to an individual choice of being a Vegan or not(Vegetarian would be much more sensible and acceptable). There's no confirmed evidence being a Vegan can improve your health either; as far as I know, even my Vegetarian friends need to take some diet supplementary pills to meet their daily nutrition demand, let alone Vegans. The Go Vegan slogan is quite shockingly extreme and misleading to me; I would rather agree on reduced meet consumption instead.
In praise of vegies
One can be extreme about anything! including meat, and come a cropper. Take your time, would be vegan and investigate.
I have not eaten any meat (includes fish) for 48 years, always enjoyed excellent health, do not suffer from acidity (eat your greens), greasy dishes, or such high bills as go with flesh eating, and don't feel the least extreme, though I am near as damm it vegan now since discovering in my old age that dairy does me harm.
Within a short time of giving up everything (almost :) meat being prepared by others smelled repulsive.
But you need to know what you are doing somewhat. You can do yourself harm. Diversity of intake is a safeguard and women more than hemen ! need to watch out for a few things re babies. Apart from that I've formed the opinion that much of the propaganda I absorbed about food as a child is industry serving bs and thoughtless tradition. I've never lacked for protein, never suffered iron deficiency, or any other deficiency acording to blood tests, contrary to predictions, apart from money where I will admit to being generally anemic but that is another matter.
With more people now in other parts of the world wanting more meat and dairy, this is increasing deforestation even in NZ. Were we all vegetarian we would need less than half the farming land we use today. We would have very much less silting of waterways and erosion of land - it does not take much effort to see the damage animal farming does almost everywhere. Your meat comes with supplements too, with fertilisers, excessive use of anti-biotics plus cruel practises and silly ones, to get more product per animal, cheaper and at the flavour that suits the highest priced market.
It seemed such a cruel irony when I learned Americans were buying beef from Argentina and supplying aid to the poor in Argentina in the form of protein supplements! Most animal farming is a form of cash cropping and like any form of cash cropping (corn for ethanol, palms for bio-diesel) brings a whole lot of evils in its train. Oh heck! my farming friends will set the dogs on me :(
But who will care about all of this? We are ruled by desire, not understanding, and while that remains so we will always be messing up ourselves and our planet. Or can we do better?

Go vegan
I haven't eaten meat or fish since 1984 and I'm in excellent health. I run 40 kms a week and do a 3-4 hour tramp on Sundays. I have had very few eggs over the years but relied heavily on dairy products until just over two years ago when my knowledge of the miserable life led by dairy cows forced me to give it up. Much to my surprise, it meant an end to attacks of both hayfever and hives- an unexpected bonus- and I've felt better than ever. I also hate the smell of cooking meat and find it repulsive to walk past the meat counters in the supermarket.
There are increasing numbers of people who are choosing to lead a life based on concern for others and the environment, who are not ruled by desire. It's much easier now to find really delicious and varied meals made from soy protein which were not available when I stopped eating meat and I'm sure that there will be more and more people who will choose a vegan diet in the future.

Healthier than ever
I gave up eating most meat and dairy about a year ago and as a regular blood donor I found that my blood count has gone up as a result. Not what I expected but proof to me that these things are not necessary in your diet to be healthy. Not to mention they are 2 of the most overpriced commodities on the grocery shelf.

I don't mind dairy
I don't mind dairy especially home made cheese from greece or feta at least it's probably the only cheese i eat with nothing else maybe some olives or veggies etc. I enjoy eating health and organic i really think if more people did they would feel so much better and be healthier. Even with all the vitamins that i know im getting i still take a multi vitamin every day i buy discount vitamins online since its cheaper then in a store.
Vegetarianism
I have not eaten meat for a year now, and it's fabulous- i've lost a lot of weight. I am only fourteen so I still eat fish and dairy but I am thinking of cutting out dairy because it is such a resource intensive product. Most of the fish I eat is caught by my grandfather so I am keeping that on, for the moment. I have to do a persuasive speech for English and I am going to do why everyone should become vegetarians. I personally try to not eat dairy, just for dairy, only really in things (cakes etc. ) I eat lots of eggs though, but they are SPCA (Society For Prevention of Cruelty to Animals) approved- so free range, organic, the whole shebang.

Eggs are just as bad as
Eggs are just as bad as dairy ethically - like bobby (male) calves are killed because they don't produce milk, baby male chickens are killed because they do not produce eggs. And this goes for organic farming as well as intensive farming.
