Fly less and stay longer

Air travel is about the worst thing you can do for the climate. Plan your travel carefully. Aim to spend longer in one place and cut out frivolous day-long or weekend hops. Use new, cheap technology such as Skype to communicate face-to-face with friends, relatives, and work colleagues.

If you absolutely must travel by air, offset the carbon emissions it causes by planting a tree. Fly to countries that really need your tourist money and spend as much as you can on locally-owned establishments. Use air-conditioning as little as possible, don't launder clothes unnecessarily, and buy local food and drink.

trying to reduce my carbon foot print

I traveled over land from London to Thailand......instead of flying! It took a while longer but was the adventure of a life time and was great fun traveling on trains and local transport :)
