Like eggs? get chickens!

Most local councils will allow residential homes to have chickens - roosters no, chickens yes.

You only need 3 chickens to produce enough eggs for your family. Chickens will eat all your food scraps including meat, you can buy organic wheat and other feeds locally (check your yellow pages and let your fingers do the walking).

Chickens need to have a home, so if you have an old dog kennel that is fine or google how to make your own chicken tractor. A chicken tractor is a portable home that you can shift around your section to that the chooks when they are in their home have fresh grass each day.

Chickens are very easy maintenance, require about 10mins each day to feed and collect eggs.
