Be the Boss
PLEDGE: Be the Boss
Get your workplace on board the Be The Change initiative.
Get your boss to switch to energy efficient light bulbs,
Get your colleagues to 'switch' off their monitors and other office equipment at the wall at the end of the work day,
Prior to xmas shut down all appliances at the wall, empty the fridge and leave the doors open during the xmas break,
Public transport subsidies, ask the boss about public transport initiatives and see if (they don't already) will subsidize 50 per cent of staff public transport costs

workplace changes
This is a great idea. Getting practices into place at work seems especially important to me. It is still about personal action but it is a little more public than what we do at home - so can catch on more easily. Thanks to the environmental officer at our work some of us have swapped our big bins for tiny (very cute) bins that sit on our desks. An offshoot of this is I now take my fruit scraps home for composting rather than chucking them in the bin - which means they are destined for landfill.

Worplace recycling
I managed a resthome for a while and during my time there we changed our rubbish collection from everything in one bin(or should I say 6) to separating out the paper, plastic, tin and glass. The staff got on board with the plan and it was great to see some of our rubbish being recycled instead of all of it going to the landfill. We purchased a shredder so that anything sensitive could be shredded first.
Now get a worm farm
You can feed the shredded paper to the worms along with any food scraps you have from lunch etc.
composting
That would have been the next logical step for the facility. I have since left so that is someone else's challenge.
composting paper
Hi
Is it okay to compost bleached paper or is that harmful to soil (or to the plants and animals that live in the soil)?
