A bit about you

I am part of the team called Project Port Lyttelton. This is a grassroots community group working towards making a difference in our climate change constrained world. We work towards making our community sustainable.

We currently are undertaking many successful projects. These include: a community garden, a community building, a waste minimisation scheme where putrescent waste is collected from local restaurants and processed into black gold using bokashi; Energy Matters - we have done a basic survey around these matters and have installed a demonstration warm wall using free solar energy for home heating, we are discussing ways to get homes retrofitted and even as a community generating our own power;we have a well established farmers market encouraging growing locally, eating seasonally and at the same time reducing food miles; we have had signage added to all walking paths throughout the town and produced a fun map - 'snakes and ladders' to encourage walking; we seed ideas, raise awareness and tell good stories in our monthly newspaper that comes out in the centre of a community newspaper The Akaroa Mail; we have established a Time Bank where people share their skills with one another, everyone's time is equal; we, in conjunction with the local business association and information centre run summer and winter street festivals...
