In NZ, a lot of our electricity is from hydroelectric. This means that it is 'less harmful' than pure fossil-fuel-generated electricity. (It also means that small changes in electricity use can actually make big savings in total CO2 output from electricity).

It also means that the CO2 from our cars is even more significant, particularly with all the big engined cars we have over here (compared to Europe where 2.0 litre is quite a large engine).

There are things we can do to save fuel, ranging from the mild, to the extreme (google 'Aerocivic' to see what I mean!). Websites like www.gassavers.org, www.cleanmpg.com, www.ecomodder.com, allow users to discuss ideas and learn from other's experiences, and most members can change their driving style to get at least a 20% saving above the standard figures - even with automatic cars.

Make a decision to save fuel both directly, and by better planning of work / shopping etc, and you will be doing NZ and the world a favour :)
