Fancy computers are fun, but do you really need a high-powered desktop machine, with multiple processors and a fancy graphics card? If all you want to do with your computer is simple stuff like checking your email, browsing the internet, editing documents and playing music, then you have other options. You might be better off with something like the Koolu computing appliance, which uses only a fraction of the power of a regular desktop system.
Even on a normal computer there are a bunch of tweaks you can make to reduce the power it uses, if you are running the Linux OS. Check out the LessWatts.org site for a list of things you can do.
