The 41 Year Menstruation span (11-52 Years) creates Billions of Pounds of disposable Feminine hygiene products being dumped into the environment each year. In 1988 the annual figures for the U.S alone, were estimated at 12 billion Sanitary Pads and 7 Billion Tampons. Landfills are over-taxed with feminine hygiene products globally. Pollution is caused by the additives and surfactants the products contain.
Try using cloth sanitary pads - or even better (no washing...) a menstrual cup. There are a few types available - I can get a diva cup for $55 for anyone who is interested. (I know a NZ woman who imports them)
It is made from medical grade silicone and is completely Latex -free, hypoallergenic, bleach Free & odourless.
Menstrual Cups have never been linked to Toxic Shock Syndrome.
Much better for the enviroment, your wallet and better for your body too (doesn't mess with natural lubrication etc...TMI!)
