Bright ideas
![]()
We want to know what you think people should do to combat climate change in their own lives.
Here is a list of the bright ideas submitted so far. You can vote them up or down according to how good you think they are. Ideas that get 15 votes will be moved to the list of pledges.
If you've got a bright idea that isn't already listed you can submit it here.
I am finishing a prototype from an Air Motor, which could be used in any vehicles, industry, buildings, robots, etc, and it doesn’t produce any pollution because it uses the thermal energy from the environment for working, as only fuel. I don’t exaggerate if I say it is the greater solution for the climate change and energy problems of the world. I have all technical documentation, and I could explain every question about this development.
It is very easy, and probably much cheaper, to add a thermal backing to an existing curtain. The backing can be transfered if the curtain at a later date has to be replaced.
I bought some admittedly very good thermal curtains to cover two windows for a total of $214. I felt warm just looking at them, but I could have put thermal backing on the existing curtains for just $36 including some tape, thread, hooks and two or three hours of inexpert sewing. See further.
If you know someone who is doubtful that climate change is a problem, but is still prepared to listen to reason on the issue, the Royal Society of New Zealand has issued a statement that provides a clear, concise statement of the scientific consensus on climate change. It's not radical, but that means it may be more likely to convince a moderate sceptic. You can read it at

Hey guys, dot wanna waste ur time but this is important. These pictures look like hell right?well, hell is just a big pile 'o pollution, setting off smoke alarms in the devils kitchen.Wood fires and bonfires are the worst fire you could have because as you can see in both pictures, smoke is rising from them and casuing these guys here to be on the edge of extinction. We need to take action. Now
Insulate you're house against heat loss. One of the most important areas is the ceiling; installing some form of insulation such as Batts. Also think about getting windows double glazed. A less costly but important too is; draft stop insulation tape in door frames etc. Anywhere there is a small airgap and outside air can come in.
You will gain many advantages for the environment and you're own energy use; lower power heating cost and comfort.
In NZ, a lot of our electricity is from hydroelectric. This means that it is 'less harmful' than pure fossil-fuel-generated electricity. (It also means that small changes in electricity use can actually make big savings in total CO2 output from electricity).
It also means that the CO2 from our cars is even more significant, particularly with all the big engined cars we have over here (compared to Europe where 2.0 litre is quite a large engine).

In combination with the number of searches and advertising revenue they will plants trees! Uses google and yahoo search engines.
My Partner and i had what we think is a really good idea for getting information about saving energy to the general public at first we thought a major pamhplet drop to everyhouse in NZ with simple bullet point solutions on it but then realised that pamphlets would just be thrown away, so how about instead having a page in the phonebook i.e just after the emergency procedures; called the 'Energy Saving Guide' with the simple bullet point solutions as said before for example:
_ change lightbulbs to energy saving bulbs
- turn off appliances at the wall
- use reusable bags
- recycle
