Christmas Lights
I know the kids love Christmas and I know there’s nothing like a Christmas tree however we are all being fooled at this time of year. Despite the peer pressure to be caught up in it all while the real reason for Christmas evades most of us we involve ourselves in such things as the placement of lights all over the house and tree or both. I have a small globe like tree that uses similar bulbs as the tree lights and I noted the other day when I turned it on briefly that it radiated a lot of heat thus a lot of power. While I am sure it was not the best of examples regarding power usage, as my ornament was not the standard lights, I estimate that more power is consumed unnecessarily without our caring when the tree lights are on over the festive season. Let’s do our part where it counts and drop all the lights from the tree. At the end of the day the kids only want what’s under the tree and you don’t need lights for that. Let’s stick with an all natural Christmas, a fresh green tree and no lights. By the way I am in a dilemma myself this year. Do I use a real tree that has been butchered or a plastic tree that will one day go to the ground and add to the worlds waste?

CO2 trees?
Is the business of growing xmas trees good for the environment? We cut them down when they're only a few years old and plant new ones - do trees absorb more CO2 per year when they're young or old? If someone started a business recycling xmas trees (I don't know what they could be used for!) so they didn't get dumped, it could be a really positive thing.
