water

Im a new zealander living in melbourne, australia for a little while and adjusting to strict water restrictions was required on the first night i arrived. It took a while to sink in that i really had to consider what i was using, or not using when i turned the tap on.
I have become so much more wary of simply turning the tap on slowly when rinsing a plate instead of absentmindedly having it full throttle. Or better still putting the plug in the sink before rinsing dishes.

Have a personalised glass for every member of the household - everyone knows which is their glass, so you don't need to get a fresh glass out of the cupboard every time you want a drink.

Don't wash your dishes after every meal, wait until there is a decent pile before washing, this reduces the amount of hot water being used because you are filling up the sink once, rather than 3 or more times a day.
