Last month we set up Critical Mass in Auckland. Critical Mass occurs the Friday of the month in over 300 cities around the world and basically involves getting as many people as possible together at a central meeting place and cycling through peak traffic. It's more of a celebration of self powered transport than a protest and really is heaps of fun! We have people from all 'walks' of life attending and aim to keep it that way.

Action on Fossil Fools Day - 1st April

There are lots of great opportunities to show our concern about our greenhouse gas emissions, and our appetite for strong action on climate.

The Global Day of action on Dec 8th last year was a good example of how we call all be organising actions and events in our communities.

There are three more days of action in the pipeline, which have been called by Rising Tide. Info is below.

Who here in Aotearoa is keen to get involved in any or all of these? Lets start the discussion...!

Stop Transit's Tunnels - Public Meeting Wednesday 13 February 6-8pm

Venue: St Johns in the City Church, cnr Willis and Dixon Streets, Wellington

Please Attend - This Is Extremely Important

Transit have begun consultation on the Ngauranga to Airport Transport
Strategy - and this could see more tunnels, more roads and more flyovers
being built through the heart of our city. The result will be more CO2,
more dependence on oil, and a worse quality of life for Wellington residents.

But there's still time to change the plan. Already there's a strong push
to make the city more pedestrian and cyclist friendly, and to invest in

Wellington City Council recently made a commitment to carbon neutrality. But the newly-released plan for revamping east-west transport in Wellington - the Ngauranga to Airport Strategic Transport Study - suggests "solving" Wellington's transport problems by spending massive amounts of money on building new roads and road tunnels. To find how you can support sustainable Wellington transport and oppose this 1950s-style transport plan, see http://www.bethechange.org.nz/blogs/timjones/support-sustainable-wellington-transport-campaign

People, since the dawn of time man has been using the most enviromentally friendly form of transport, our feet! since the industrial revolution, we have begun to neglect the cheapest form of transport available, so walk more often! if you live within 2-3 kilometers of your work, or a train station walk and save on carbon emmissions!

Sit down with your spouse or partner and figure out how you can take turns with one car. Figure out what days you can work from home or be at home with children, carpool with a friend or neighbour, or walk or cycle to walk, school or kindy. Figure out how much money you'll save and what you'll spend it on. Will you save enough to stretch to taxis for those once-a-month days when you both need a car?

You'll find this pledge easier if you've already chosen to live near work and use local schools and kindies and shops, or to live near easy public transport routes.

I know that getting up in the morning and getting your mum to drive you to school can be very easy but instead try biking, scooting or walking to school. It has great views and it keeps you fit.
If your school is far away, maybe bus or carpool with lots of people.
It will help you and the enviroment!
Give it a try!!!!!!

Getting stuck on the motorway? Bet ya a lot of cars are drivers only. What if people start to rideshare? Fewer vehicles mean less pollution, better traffic and better resource management. Carpool King, www.CarpoolKing.com, is a kiwi-operated site that provides online carpooling services to people and it is free. Let's start filling those empty seats in the cars!

i bought an electric scooter

I bought an electric scooter the other day, from http://www.evworld.co.nz/ . There is more detailed information about the scooter at http://www.kero.co.nz/

Performance and price are similar to a conventional scooter, although it's too early to say how long the batteries will last.

See the attached video to see it running!
