The Scottish Government has just published proposals for the most progressive climate change legislation in the world: the Scottish ClimateChange Bill. If the proposals are passed, they could commit Scotland to reducing its greenhouse gas emissions by 80% by 2050 – the target that all developed countries should make if we are to avoid the worst effects of climate change.

Right now, the Government is under strong pressure from big business and big emitters to water down and delay its proposed greenhouse gas Emissions Trading Scheme. The Climate Defence Network wants people to visit or write to the Prime Minister, David Parker (Minister Responsible for Climate Change Issues), and their nearest Labour MP to tell the government not to back down on the scheme, and to let them know ways it can be improved.
