It's good to see that Suistainability studies will be taught in schools. I think children need to be taught 'how to live'..... not how to consume.

agreed
Yes I think this is a good thing too. I'll be interested to see how it gets incorporated into the syllabus but it's good that issues around the environment are being included in other policies.
The Enviro-Challenge is a bit ahead of the field in this arena - it's a programme developed for students where they do an environmental audit of their schools, then work on practical solutions. I'm working on a story about it - I will post a blog once I know for sure when it will play on Sunrise on TV3.
But yes, glad to see the inclusion of sustainability in the curriculum!

beyond sustainability education
I agree that is great to see sustainability as part of the new curriculum. The really vital ingredient in successful lifestyle education has to be role modelling - we all know that children copy our actions far more readily than they follow our words. I very much hope that more schools take a whole-school approach to this issue - like Jono's discussed. What does it mean to encourage kids to walk if teachers all bring their cars? etc.
Good Point
Thats a good point, but we live near a college and kids bring their cars to school too. Should that be allowed?
