A global day of action

International Global Day of Action LogoInternational Global Day of Action LogoDuring last year's Global Day of Action I was in Ruakaka at the foot of the then proposed Marsden B coal fired power station. Greenpeace set up a pirate radio station and broadcast our protest for three days straight. Now one year on Marsden B is little more than a grimy memory. Along with all the thousands who joined us in our opposition we successfully put a stop to it.

Now one year on as the 2007 United Nations Climate Change Conference takes place in Bali, Indonesia, between December 3 and December 14, 2007 we're gearing up for another day of action.

These international climate talks - attended by representatives from over 180 countries - will shape the next stage of the Kyoto Protocol, the only global treaty that requires Governments to reduce their greenhouse gas emissions and slow climate change.

December 8th will be another Global Day of Action on Climate and will bring many thousands of people together around the world to demand immediate and effective action from our political leaders in tackling climate change.

In Auckland Be The Change is hosting the Climate Rescue Festival from midday in Western Park, Ponsonby. The bus will be there, we'll be creating a giant human banner, there'll be live music, organic food and coffee and lots of fun to be had!

In Wellington there will be a Climate Action Festival from 12-7 in Civic Square, and in Dunedin a Climate Picnic at Woodhaugh Gardens. More will be added to the website as we find out about them.

If you can't make it to one of these, or want to do a bit more ... read on.
