2008 - Year of the climate

in

We’ve had a bit of down time at the Be The Change nerve centre over the holiday period but we’re now charged up and back on the job!

Last year’s bus tour was a great success. We talked to a lot of people, found some great stories and signed up a bunch of new members.

We’ve got some great stuff planned for 2008 but to set the scene let’s first take a moment and look back to December 07 at the UN Bali climate negotiations.

The Bali negotiations

It’s said that a week is a long time in politics. The burning question is whether two weeks is long enough for governments to finally wake up, smell the carbon and confront the biggest problem facing the world.

We'll find out soon.

The United Nations climate negotiations have begun in Bali. The most important two weeks in (climate) diplomacy in the last decade are now under way. In an opening address David Mwiraria, Kenya's environment minister, spoke these words.

A global day of action

What’s all this about BTC points?

If you’ve been inviting people to join Be The Change, started writing a blog or have had a bright idea promoted to a pledge you will no doubt have noticed that you’ve earned some BTC Points. It’s about time we explained what this means.

Be The Change is all about critical mass – we need lots of people doing lots of things and this website is one place where that can begin to happen – but we need to get LOTS of people signed up and we need to get lots of activity here on the site for when they do – so with BTC Points we’re going to start offering some incentives!

Watch this bus!

Hello New Zealand!

This is the first blog post on the new Be The Change website but it sure won't be the last. We've got some great things planned so there's going to be lots more to come ... not least of which is the Be The Change Bus Tour! I can't give away much at the moment but watch this space.

Have a look around the site ... make sure you get registered and then you can set up your Be The Change pledge list. Just browse the list of actions and click on the ones you're keen to do (or are already doing).
