We're taking the Be The Change Bus from Bluff to Northland. Along the way we'll be seeding the change as much as we can and seeking stories of people doing good things for the climate. This is our blog.

The bus tour schedule
Bus scheduleWe're hitting the road and we're coming to a town near you!
The Climate Rescue Team is taking to to road in the Be The Change bus. We're touring the country from Bluff to the Bay of Islands talking about the campaign.
So far the bus doesn't have a name and we're taking suggestions so please submit your idea here. The winning idea (as determined by the bus crew) will become the official affectionate bus name!
Open days will run 10am - 5pm.
The busThe bus is fitted out with an interactive multi-media exhibition and a solar powered web centre.
As we tour the country there will be 14 open days and a bunch of other opportunities to meet the crew, check out the bus and tell your stories.
We're on the hunt for good stories about people doing good things for the climate to post here on the website.

bus
No town near me (Blenheim) ... ChCh and Wellington are far, far away! Once the bus is on the road, why not make the use of its kms to stop as many places as possible along the way?
re: bus
Hi Penny - We're doing our best to see go as many places as possible and see as many people as possible but we're not going to be able to go everywhere. Our current itinerary was the best we could do with the resources we had available.
You will be able to follow the tour here on the website however - we'll be uploading video images and we'll be blogging the whole way!
Itinerary
We at Waitati think this is a great initiative and support it. We're happy too that you're coming to Waitati on the 11th November, between 2-5pm, outside the Blueskin Bay Library, and we want to bring together some of our local initiatives, as well as modelling and renewable technology options such as local solar hot water suppliers. We are working on publicising this locally and want to follow the bus virtually too. Can you please put Waitati on the itinerary? Cheers,
Scott
Bus Tour - Times
THere are no times specified on the bus schedule - does this mean you will be at these places all day? i.e. 9-5 ?
I am in Wellington but I'm sure the people in other places would like to know exactly when the bus will be there.
re: bus tour times
Hi LSHwe - good point! I've added in a line above now. Basically the open days will run from 10am - 5pm.
Be the Change bus crew
The South Coast Environment Centre would like to invite the bus out to Riverton on Wednesday, Thursday or Friday- any time you can make it - 0nly 40 kms away.
We think all tours of NZ for the Enviroment should start in Riverton (which is pretty near the bottom of the Island as well) as we have an attractive, active and the most southern Environment Centre in the world www.sces.org.nz
...wish we had known about your tour earlier.
If you can make it out please contact our Centre office@sces.org.nz and we can arrange a gathering and food if required.
Both schools in our town are enviro schools too and we are teachers so can arrange things there as well.
Thanks for considering our invite- would love to meet you all.
Best wishes from our team to yours
re: your invite
Hello aporo pai!
That sounds really great and thank you for the invite but unfortunately we won't be able to make it down to Riverton. We simply won't have the time in our schedule. Please stay in touch though and please write up your activities and post as a story here on the website.
Networking
Hi Changeling,
The catalyst, or point of recharge the BTC bus provides seems a clear outcome since the project was launched, and we are looking forward to meeting you in Waitati. I can't help regretting that you aren't stopping in Riverton however, for the same points above. Riverton is a point of light in terms of sustainability and a community of action as it appears via networks. A delegation from Waitati/Blueskin Bay/Otago Organics is heading down there this weekend, to meet, discuss and lots else I'm sure. I hope most will be back for Sunday afternoon at Waitati where we have lots organised to complement the bus, but I think we need to support the great things happening in Riverton as much as possible too. Have you got scouts out on bikes ahead? Riverton would be worth a visit and I wish I could get there too, but try to limit carbon expenditure and besides, can only be in so many places at once. The Riverton website is an excellent one, with stories and clear information. Makes me want to visit and recreate what they've got here.
Cheers,
Scott
Hi Scott & Aporo Pai
Hi Scott & Aporo Pai
Yes! the South Coast Environment Centre in Riverton is a fantastic place - I went there and checked it out myself last time I was in Southland.
Unfortunately, we only have six weeks to cover the whole of NZ, so we need to keep moving northwards.
The bus tour team will be meeting up with Robyn from the Environment Centre tomorrow morning (Thursday the 8th) in Invercargill, which will be great. I'm really interested to hear what projects you're working on at the moment. We can give you some Be The Change info to take back to the Environment Centre too.
More importantly, you can keep using this website to spread the message about the work that you're doing (like you did in the last post), and keep the momentum going long after the bus tour has left town. That's what it's all about.
See you tomorrow.

Tracking Change
Hi Jo and all bus members,
One thing that those of us firmly located in Geographical locations always appreciate is stories from travellers. There are those general stories, of interest to everyone, such as being caught up in a protest in Paris, or visiting a Slow City in Italy, but there are also stories too that offer succour when voluntary energy is low, or a battle lost. Those stories are often the ones that come from travellers who move between key sites in New Zealand. Here in the South, at Waitati and Dunedin, we always love to hear about initiatives in Riverton, Hampden/Moeraki, Herbert/Oamaru. We'd love to hear stories from further afield too, but those within striking distance have a particular impact because we are more likely to visit and meet those people, and build practical networks for confronting coming challenges and seeking positive solutions.
So what is useful to us here, at Waitati, and I imagine in those other communities too, is to hear the analysis of those travellers who move between us, and to hear practical ideas that have been picked up en route. Because one advantage we have, grounded in a specific geographical area, is the ability to engage in concrete action over the long term. This is the 'detail' of change. It fits particularly well with actions by people such as you in the BTC bus; actions that generally act to shape the structure within which our actions on detail can be more (or less) effective.
Along with your big mission, therefore, and along with the stories you'll bring, I hope too that you will put some thought into how the networks can be made stronger, like a web across the country, and bring ideas on the lessons we can learn from each other.
Cheers,
Scott
Hail to the bus crew
Hey Bus Crew,
What your doing I think is FANTASTIC the more Kiwis aware of our planets dire state the better. I am a born and breed Kiwi girl but am currently based in United Kingdom, I am still a huge Greenpeace follower and am always online seeing what GP is up to. Have also been watching the Whale Trail very closely, this time about five years ago I was involved in a GP protest outside Helen Clark's residence in Thorndon, Wellington when the Japenese Primeminister had come to vist ! Ah the memories Lol, Just want you all to know if I was in NZ right now I would be on that bus with you.
Keep up the good work, and I look forward to tracking your progress online
Take care and good luck x

Hail to the bus crew
Kia ora Guys
I also think you are doing a fantastic job - keep up the great work! It's so important getting into communities and having these discussions - kind of like traveling minstrels, back in the day, taking good examples and stories from town to town.
Having done a few of these tours, I know you'll be putting in long hours, staying in different beds every night and are away from loved ones - your hard work is appreciated. Wish I could be on the bus with you too.
See you in Wellington
Gareth
